Somerset Skills & Learning

Somerset’s rural profile makes reaching all geographical areas and groups of people very difficult. Somerset Council Community Skills and Learning aim to use the SWLLN funds to become a Centre of Excellence in rural IAG, concentrating their delivery in the West Somerset area.

They are planning to employ trained IAG champions to promote the Centre in areas which have potential learners who are hard to reach or who have no knowledge or understanding of the benefits of impartial learning advice. They also plan to provide advice and guidance to Somerset County Council staff members who are already undergoing level 3 training, to build on their existing expertise within the workforce and encourage progression into Foundation degrees in relevant disciplines such as Social Care, Early years and Heritage. They will be providing learner support programmes for people who want to progress to Higher Education In the summer, they will organise an event in Somerset to bring together potential adult learners and providers of HE.
