South West Lifelong Learning Network, Lifelong Learning in the South West

IAG & LS Hubs

The South West Lifelong Learning Network worked with partner organisations to provide Information, Advice, Guidance & Learner Support (IAG&LS) to vocational learners within the region to set up a number of IAG&LS Hubs.  We invited interested IAG&LS providers to bid for development funding to enable them to extend the range and scope of their existing IAG&LS activities to benefit potential, existing and re-engaging learners in the South West. Along with financial support the hubs received up to 25 days consultancy from our SWLLN staff.

We worked co-operatively, to share best practice across the geographical region of the SWLLN , to work imaginatively and to support IAG & LS development initiatives to the benefit of all.  We wished to work with providers in a manner that would add value to existing and emerging IAG&LS services. In our pilot phase in 2007, hub host organisations were identified in North Devon, Dorset, South Somerset and Cornwall. In our second round of bidding a further six hubs  were identified across the SWLLN area. We aimed to encourage original thinking which addressed the long standing issues surrounding access to IAG & LS for remote communities, individuals and those in the workplace looking to upskill.
