Cultural Services (5f)

Aim: Support the development of Part Time Under Graduate level units/modules encompassing three related pathways: Information Management and Libraries, Museums and Galleries Management, and Archives and Records Management (Bournemouth and Poole College, Truro College) within an Under Graduate course.

Foundation Degree (FD) development in Libraries, Museums and Archives

Claire Puckett, a SWLLN Curriculum and Progression worker, has led several employer and provider engagements, has liaised with the professional bodies, and has overseen the approval of a new part-time Foundation Degree meeting the needs of library, museum and archive staff. Gallery employees are also likely to find the course useful. The programme has a strong education theme and there is a progression opportunity to the University of Plymouth’s BA (Hons) Education and Training offered at Plymouth, Truro and Camborne.Truro and Penwith College is to begin the programme in September 2008; Bournemouth and Poole College are to follow suite in 2009 (and are producing some e-materials to support the learning through a virtual environment dubbed “Heritage House”).

Foundation Degree in Information, Advice and Guidance

Claire Puckett and Truro and Penwith College have also teamed up to produce another part-time FD for those working in the realm of Information, Advice and Guidance. The content of this innovative course has caught the interest of other providers and, for example, University Centre Yeovil is planning to create a Continuous Professional Development (CPD) version with single modules (bite-size) available.
