Lois Thorn, BA(Hons), P.G.C.E.(F.E), M.Ed, has moved to the Open University from Connexions West of England, where she was the IAG Partnership Manager. She also worked in the company’s Employability Skills group, managing education – business link projects to inspire young people in their vocational learning and career choices, with partners in the tourism, hospitality, retail and construction sectors. She previously worked in the Cotswolds, managing Adult and Community Education and Adult Guidance at a new tertiary college. Her early career was spent as a tutor organiser and course director at Bradford and Ilkley Community College, where she set up a scheme for training bilingual Asian adults to work in public services. Her SWLLN project role encompasses:
  • co-ordination and oversight of tasks at area level and supervision of the core IAG team of five staff
  • planning, scheduling, monitoring and evaluation of the IAG and learner support strand 
  •  identifying and disseminating good practice within the LLN community
